Welcome To QUOTE$ v1.0.4 PURPOSE: QUOTE$ is designed to aid the Professional Sales Person in creating quotes for prospective clients while accessing a database of company inventory. Features include a Cover Letter Editor and Document Tracker (simple contact manager), and QUOTE$ INVENTORY. This program was designed to keep things as simple as possible without too many bells and whistles to confuse the user. INSTALLATION: 1) Exit all programs before Setup process. Nothing should be running on your computer except the operating system. If you are installing on a network computer, ensure the system files can be accessed and changed. If your system administrator has them locked out, you will be unable to install the software. 2) Insert the compact disc into your CD-ROM drive. Or, if you are using diskettes, place disk 1 into the A: drive. 3) Under Windows95/98 click on the Start button, highlight and click on Run. 4) Click on the Browse button of the Run dialog box. 5) Locate your CD-ROM drive or your A:\ drive, which ever the case may be, and select the file marked Setup.exe in the Browse dialog box. Click Open. The path and filename should appear in the textbox of the Run dialog box. 6) Click OK. 7) The Setup.exe file will then launch. Follow the prompts. If you are installing from a zipped file obtained from the net, place the zipped file in a temporary directory. Unzip the file using PKUnzip or some similar program. Double click on the Setup.exe file. The program will automatically load up on your system. Just follow the prompts. Please note that if during the Setup process of this program you encounter a statement from the system as follows: "An Access Violation has occured while copying the file." on files msvcrt.dll and mfc42.dll, this message merely means you already have these files on your system and they are in use either by another program or the operating system itself. In this case simply click on the Ignore button. Altenatively, if you are concerned whether you have the most recent version of these two files and want to ensure they overright the existing ones, you can exit Setup, close down Windows and restart Windows in SafeMode (see Windows Documentation concerning SafeMode), and while in Windows at the completion of the boot you can run the Setup.exe for this program then and all files will most definitely be copied to your hard drive. STATUS: This program is a fully functional version. It has not been crippled in any way. QUOTE$ is shareware, and as such, you have 20 days, or 15 tries to assess the program. If you feel it fits your business needs and would like to continue using it, you may register any time during the evaluation period stated above. We hope we have made QUOTE$ simple enough to use, that a conclusion of assessment can be reached in the time period provided. PROBLEMS: In the event of a problem with the setup process feel free to contact Alan Shiers at jshiers@istar.ca UPGRADING:Feel free to visit our Web site at: http://home.istar.ca/~jshiers/index.html to keep abreast of the latest version releases for QUOTE$. If you are upgrading now, we suggest you first download the latest release to a temporary directory on your system, and before you run the setup program, uninstall the old QUOTE$ program. Take what critical databases you may have that were created from the old version (such as your contact database) and move them also into a temporary directory. If you have regular backups of your system then a copy of your databases in the latest backup may be all you need. After you UnInstall of the old version and once the latest version is in place, you can return the database you moved back into the QUOTE$ directory. If you have a backup copy of your system, you need only to move the database in question from the backup to the QUOTE$ directory. UnInstalling QUOTE$: To uninstall QUOTE$ in Windows95/98 simply click on START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL and select Add/Remove Programs. When the dialog box appears select the Install/Uninstall tab. In the list box scroll through the list of programs on your system until you find QUOTE$. Select QUOTE$, highlighting it, then click on the Add/Remove button. Follow the prompts as Windows uninstalls QUOTE$ for you.
